| The first part of the Ardennes races,
the Flèche Wallonne, provides a tremendous spectacle
every year. The final at the summit of the Mur de Huy puts
the riders physical condition to the test and pitilessly selects
the leaders. The Belgians and Italians usually shine but the
cosmopolitan selection brings together all the big names in
cycling, such as Merckx, Hinault, Argentin, Jalabert, Armstrong
and Bartoli…
For the last four years, the Flèche Wallonne is also
one of the rounds in the Women’s World Cup, probably
the most selective and difficult of the year as the Mur de
Huy is part of the programme.
Mario Aerts and Fabiana Luperini who once again in 2002
proved the overwhelming domination of the Belgian and Italian
riders, will no doubt be part of the main contenders list
in the 2003 edition. |
