Invited to participate in French Sports Minister Valérie Fourneyron's trip to Japan, Jean-Etienne Amaury, Chairman of A.S.O., and Christian Prudhomme, Director of the Tour de France, took advantage to announce, in the company of Mr Hayato Shimizu, Mayor of Saitama, the second edition of the Saitama Criterium by Le Tour de France. The main riders on the Tour de France will be expected to light up the city's avenues and enthuse the crowds next autumn.
In the first Saitama Criterium by Le Tour de France, Chris Froome finished in the position he held with such authority in July, distancing Green Jersey Peter Sagan and World Champion Rui Costa on the last lap of the main circuit! The Sky leader sustained his form, and treated the 200,000 people who lined the city course to cheer the riders on to a fine display.
The day before the Saitama Criterium by Le Tour de France proved something of an emotional rollercoaster for the riders. For one thing, Chris Froome and the rest came up against some trainee sumo wrestlers...
