He was fourth overall and the best young rider in the race. Tejay van Garderen will go from Paris to London to take part in his first Olympic Games.

“I'm ready and willing to accept the responsibility and expectation that comes with this jersey. I think it's another few years before I can start thinking about switching this colour but luckily I'm still eligible for this colour [white] next year so maybe I'll just try to win this again before I go for the big prize.
“It's been a huge three weeks – just being able to learn from the veterans like George and Cadel, and learning that I can actually hold up to a big three week race… it's been wild and it's been a lot of fun.
“Right now it's all about recovery in the lead-up to the Games. I'm going to try and take it easy and relax, have a little fun and I think that's the best way to be ready for London.”
