Roanne

Known as a town of sport, culture and innovation, Roanne has built a solid reputation for hosting top sports' events (the Tour de France, the Semaine des As basketball competition, Paris-Nice, etc.). A great lifestyle, gourmet cuisine, modern facilities, quality services and facilities…you'll find everything you need in this town located between the Monts de la Madeleine mountain range and the Beaujolais region. That's why visitors who come here soon feel at home and, when they leave, can't wait to come back to discover or rediscover all the treasures – hidden or otherwise – that the region has to offer. For many years, Roanne has had a global reputation as a mecca of gastronomy. Montagny

The area around Roanne, known as the Roannais, is packed with architectural and natural heritage sites. The many hills and valleys, colours and scents produce a delicious array of sensations. The Roannais has a total population of 100,000 and is well set-up for the increasing number of tourists that come here every year. Alongside the banks of the Loire, the Roannais has a wealth of pleasant, charming villages with an outstanding architectural heritage (chapels, monasteries, churches, keeps, castles and châteaux, etc.). Montagny is a perfect example of this with its 6 castles, which were 19th Century residences of local manufacturers, its church built on the old abbey, itself built in 900. Montagny is ideally located with a superb view over Roanne's hills where you can pick out over 60 bell towers.  Every year, more than 90,000 rose plants are grown in vast flower beds and attract many visitors. Lastly, 3 medical practices, a dozen retailers and craftspeople as well as 4 major companies provide a wide range of services and make this a wonderful place to live.
