Stage by stage

stage 3 - Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire Nuits-Saint-Georges 202 km
Tuesday 8 March

En ligne - A sporting perspective

Analysis from François Lemarchand

It was roughly forty years ago that Jean Grackzyck won a Paris-Nice stage ending in Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire. The stage of the day will visit the Morvan Natural Park, whose undulating roads should favour a lively race. Following their arrival in Côte-d’Or, the riders will follow the Bourgogne canal and then ride among vineyards for over 25 kilometres before reaching one of its most prestigious towns: Nuits-Saint-Georges. It remains to be seen whether there will be a repeat of 1977, when a sprinter took the stage in the home of the Nuitons. Back then, Freddy Maertens took the third of his four stage wins!

Located in Nièvre in the Burgundy region, this city owes its name to a merger in 1973 of Cosne-sur-Loire and Cours.

The majority of the 12000 residents live on the banks of the Loire. This area is in the heart of a wine making region, boasting several world-renowned wine producers.

The town is host to many cultural events, like the French Film Festival and the Book Fair Week. Some of the places of interest include the Museum of the Loire and the Eden Cinema, which was originally an architectural historical monument.

Environmentally conscious, Agenda 21 (the UN’s sustainable development initiative) plays a big importance to the region. As does sporting activities, demonstrated by its 32 different Sports clubs.

Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire is pleased to welcome back Paris-Nice in what is a pleasant city to live and visit.

A city that moves!
