Nice is France’s fifth largest city and has a privileged climate and a contemporary culture, which perfectly combines economic, tourist and social life activities.

In this balanced organisation, sport is an essential link in the "chain". 130 clubs receive subsidies and 44 million euros have been invested in six years for renovation and purely development purposes: the rebuilding of the water park, the renovation of the municipal swimming pools, the creation of four new games fields and the installation of an archery range which is accessible to disabled people.

The projects of a sports centre on the western side of the city, a sports complex on the eastern side and a big stadium underline the city’s will to promote sports that lend themselves to media coverage, as well as the so-called “little known” ones, and confirm that Nice and its population are passionate about sport.

Where sport is first and cycling is always a priority!

Nice is a sports city and is also the bicycle capital.

Here bicycles are a way of expressing a lifestyle, the pleasure of discovering and the desire of sensing one’s environment as well as surpassing one’s own limits.

It has a privileged place within the transport redeployment policy. And with the new tramway, which was inaugurated in 2007, it is at the head of the ecological transport platform of tomorrow.

In order to promote and develop the practice of this sport and this form of transport, the city has decided to create bicycle paths (soon there will be a 45 km network), especially on the “Promenade des Anglais”, to replace parking spaces by ones for motorbikes. As soon as users have completely adapted to the tramway, they plan to install a self-service bicycle system.

Nice is proud to show cyclists to their advantage through this mythical event which is Paris-Nice.
