Nevers and its region: simple pleasures…

Nevers, which is a land of gastronomy, thanks to its thickly-cut Charolais steaks and its local wines (Pouilly, Coteaux du Giennois and Charitois), delights taste buds with its sweet specialities: nougat, the “Négus“ (a type of local sweet made from caramel and chocolate) and “Petits Mariniers“ (shortbread biscuits in the shape of an anchor).

The famous Nevers Magny-Cours circuit, which hosts the Formula 1 French Grand Prix as well as other renowned competitions such as the “Bol d’Or“ is situated on the outskirts of the town.

Bellevillle, which is situated on the edge of the major trunk roads, is a very suitable stage to go and discover Beaujolais and its vineyards. It was founded in the 12th century by Humbert III, Lord of Beaujeu, and rapidly became a centre for exchanges and commerce, with its merchants, coopers and its river port. Two monuments are the testimony of its rich historic past: the Notre-Dame Church and the “Hôtel-Dieu“.

The town also displays a more modern and sports side, by regularly hosting a stage of Paris-Nice and by organising the “Montgolfiades du Beaujolais“, an international event for the pleasure of young and old!
