Michal Kwiatkowski: "Everyone in the team is smiling"

The best young rider in the 100th Tour followed André Greipel over the line as the second rider from the second group to finish in St-Amand-Montrond. Here's how Michal Kwiatkowski summed up the stage...

“That was not a boring stage, for sure. Because of the crosswind the peloton was a bit nervous and after 55 kilometres, we speed up everything and we tried to go to the finish. It's always more easy to win a stage if you have a smaller bunch and it's not so nervous. After we split up the peloton into three groups nobody was trying to move to the front – the bunch was not nervous anymore. Of course Kittel dropped, and then Valverde, so there were some teams that wanted to gain some time on the GC and that worked well for us to make an easier sprint for ‘Cav'.

“I don't have pressure about the white jersey. If I can handle it and take it all the way to Paris, it's nice but I think Mont Ventoux is such a hard climb that to keep the jersey from Quintana is going to be difficult. But anyway, we're looking forward to winning other stages and we will see.

“It's nice to see Mark win again a day after he lost by centimetres. He's really motivated and he gives a lot of morale to the team; there is a good spirit and now everyone in the team is smiling."
