How do you rate this victory?
It's the biggest victory if my career. It's also special because it's my favourite race. It's a race that suits me well. It suits me and Purito Rodriguez with such a finish up the Mur de Huy. It also has a great historical value. We share the same room with Rodriguez and spoke about the race a lot. We had decided that I would have an opportunity. I was in great shape and well surrounded by the team and we were both in an excellent position in the final climb.
Is this victory a step up in your career?
If you look at last year when I captured two stages at the Dauphiné and a stage at the Giro, I showed good things. Every year I improve and today is another proof of that.
Surprised by Betancur's attack?
Betancur was in great shape after Pais Vacso. He took off early on the climb and that was risky. He failed to hang on to the lead but his third spot is a bit of a victory. What he managed can be considered as an exploit.
How did you react to Gilbert's attack?
Gilbert was in good condition. He attacked where he had done two years ago, but I was able to react. He was maybe not in a great day. I was.
Your point of view on the Colombians?
Not surprised by Colombians. Henao was one of the favourites. We'll have to keep an eye on them in the future because they are impressive.
Would you consider becoming a leader in a team in the future?
I'm happy at Katusha, happy with my role. Of course I like the pressure that I have for some races, but I don't think I could cope with it all the time like Rodriguez does. For the moment I'm happy where I am and have no intention of changing.
