Albert

The town hall was inaugurated in 1932 by President Albert Lebrun. Its belfry reaches a height of 64 metres and the Westminster-esque chimes ring every quarter of an hour.

The building houses a Potez 36 plane as a tribute to Henry Potez, the aviation pioneer who founded the Potez factory in Méaulte in 1924, which later became Airbus, the local industry’s success story.

The golden figure of Virgin Mary has unintentionally made the Notre-Dame de Brebières basilica an internationally renowned landmark. After being hit by a German shell in 1918, the Virgin remained suspended above the Place d’Armes until the end of hostilities.

For those who love nature and wide open spaces, Albert also hides unexpected treasures. Go fishing, walking/hiking, or discover the impressive lakes around the Velodrome and waterfalls in the public gardens.

Bohain-en-Vermandois

Located north of the Aisne département, Bohain combines city living with rural charm.

Bohain is the district’s administrative centre and Saint-Quentinois’ second most important business area, offering numerous local services through a network of around 100 tradespeople and craftsmen alongside almost 50 social, sports and cultural associations.

At the close of the nineteenth century, Bohain was a recognised centre of textile. The quality of cloth made by the Bohain workers was valued by haute couture houses, such as Chanel or Rodier.

Local artist Émile Flamant creates a window to the era with the 150 m2 fresco he painted of the town hall.

Bohain is also the place of Henri Matisse’s childhood days. He spent over twenty years surrounded by the shimmering, brightly patterned cloth that would appear in many of his later paintings.
