Taaramae: I'm a little better in the time trials

The Estonian who leads the youth classification required a seat as he made his way from one television network to another in the interview zone but Rein Taaramae is happy to have the first week behind him and he believes he can improve.

“I broke a bone in my arm earlier this year and all May the only training I could do was on the home trainer; every day, four hours... and it was crazy. It's not the same sport. You are confined to a room and you look at nothing but the wall in front of you and all there is to do is pedal. But I'm happy to be here even if today was not perfect. There's still a long way to go and I hope that I'm able to recover a little and still do well in the stages to come.
“I think I'm a little bit better in the time trials than I am on the climbs. When I'm in the mountains, I'm always trying to hang on but in the time trial I can do a good ride on my own. For example, last year in the final time trial, I finished 10th and that's not bad for me.
“It's good to have the first week behind us, those days are sometimes the hardest. It's really nervous and everybody is like soldiers in a war but I've survived and I'm happy to have the white jersey.”
