Grenoble, capital of the Dauphiné, lies in the heart of the Alps. A veritable mountain paradise for outdoor activities and sports, it offers the perfect base camp for all lovers of nature, thrills and adventure. The city where Stendhal ("inventor" of the tourist guide) was born is perfectly captured by his famous quotation, “Grenoble has a mountain at the end of every street.” The city has a dense architectural mix; ranging from historic buildings from the Gallo-Roman period right up to the most recent and innovative sustainable structures. With a youthful student population and wide programme of festivals, visitors can enjoy exploring the backstreets and squares of Grenoble all year round. Attractions on offer include a number of cultural sites such as the MC2 Maison de la Culture or the Magasin-Centre National d’Art Contemporain; a trip on the Bastille urban cable car offers a chance to take in one of the most spectacular panoramic views of the French Alps.

In terms of sports activities; Grenoble is home to 130 sites and locations which are used all year round by almost 2,300,000 visitors. By supporting and developing activities, clubs and initiatives and through investment in new facilities, the City has opted to put sport at the centre of its social policy in order to provide a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle - one which encourages cooperation, integration and socialisation. Whether through training or through the provision of support and encouragement, the city aspires to make sport accessible to all – at all levels; from first steps to international competition, through its vigorous determination to promote sport "for all and by all” and its inherent values.
