Le Collet d’Allevard
192.5 km
Saturday 11 June
« It’s the first high mountain stage with the climbs to the Col de St Jean de Sixt, Col des Aravis and Col de Tamie in the first part. The riders will then tackle the ascent to the Grand Cucheron, that only a few riders know because it’s been only rarely. Next up will be the equally-difficult Collet d’Allevard, where a Criterium stage finished in 1992. The diminutive Colombian Martin Farfan had won there, just like Pascal Herve two years later.

The resort, which organised the French Snowboarding Championships in particular in the winter and the World MTB Championships in the summer, today boasts some renowned ambassadors who are spreading its reputation throughout the world: Deborah Anthonioz, the World Snowboard Cross Champion and Vice Olympic champion at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, and Fabien Bard, several times winner of the French, European and World MTB Downhill Championships. Cycling enthusiasts, be they beginners or those who are more experienced, are delighted when they take to Les Gets’ 120km of cross-country and downhill trails in the summer. What’s more, Les Gets is the first mountain pass on the Route des Grandes Alpes, a tourist route which crosses the Alps from north to south, starting in Thonon-les-Bains and finishing in Menton.
