Saint-Étienne Métropole
The agglomeration of Saint-Étienne is situated in a remarkable natural setting between the National Regional Park of Pilat, the mountains of Forez and the gorges of the Loire.
With almost 400,000 inhabitants, the 43 towns which make up Saint-Étienne Métropole make it the sixth French agglomeration community. It is the crucible of small or medium-sized businesses and industries in France after the Parisian region, and the Rhône-Alpes’ second agglomeration has managed to take advantage of its industrial roots to create a new future for itself. It is currently undergoing a major revival and it is counting on design, culture and sport to increase its attractiveness and its appeal. The agglomeration of Saint-Étienne is a region which welcomes major sports events and it will be an arrival town during the Tour de France again in 2008.
