It is one of the most prestigious classic events of the international cycling calendar. From Charleroi to Huy, the two hundred kilometres of the back-breaking Walloon Flèche offers a succession of slopes that produce champions. Shorter and requiring less tactical skill than its older rival Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Walloon Flèche offers men at the top of their form the ideal opportunity to become a prize-winner or add another trophy to their list.
Both pause and final point, the famous “Mur de Huy” with its dizzying slopes allows not the slightest weakness. Champions sure of their strength carve their victory here from the toughest slopes. Davide Rebellin two years ago and Danilo Di Luca last year were inflexible here, fully justifying their ranking as favourites.
We feel good in Wallonia. And because twice is better than once, we’ll be back this summer. At Huy first of all, where the 4th stage of the Tour de France will start on 5 July. Then on to Charleroi, because the Tour de l’Avenir will be setting out from there in late August.
