Michal Kwiatkowski: "We made a very good sprint"

interview05.07.2013Stage 7- Montpellier / Albi

Fourth at the finish in Albi, fourth overall, but first in the youth rankings... it's not a bad first week in the Tour de France for Poland's Michal Kwiatkowski. He knows there are better climbers in contention for the white jersey but also isn't sure what to expect from the days ahead.

"It was a tough day, very tense. When Cannondale accelerated, I did not think they would succeed to keep this pace for so long. But in the end, we did a very good sprint here and I'm really satisfied. Sylvain Chavanel has helped me in the end, and I finished fourth. I'm in a good position with the white jersey, of course, but now he will have to continue to defend it. I know that from tomorrow we go into a different phase, and I do not know how I'll be on the climbs. There are many contenders for the white jersey, including some very good climbers – guys who are much better than me. I speak of course of [Nairo] Quintana, [Tejay] van Garderen or [Thibaut] Pinot, for example. I tried my luck in a few stages when I felt good in the mountains, like at Tirreno-Adriatico and more recently at the Dauphiné, but they are totally different races of the Tour. It is therefore difficult to learn how it could be here...”
