The Province of Liège organises a wide range of major events which both enhance its image and generate significant economic benefits.
For three decades, it has conducted a dynamic sports policy, based on a complementary approach involving both amateur and professional sports. With its sporting experience, the Province of Liege has earned a rightful place in the world of cycling. Each year in late April, its roads are used by the biggest names in world cycling for the legendary Flèche Wallonne, Flèche Wallonnes Femmes or indeed the queen of races, the Liège-Bastogne-Liège. The region has also enjoyed the privilege and honour of hosting the three great cycling Tours. 2012 will be no exception. For the second time in its history, the Province of Liège will host the Grand Départ of the Tour de France and we await your enthusiastic presence on the following occasions:
- Thursday, 28th June, at the presentation of the riders on the Place Saint-Lambert;
- Saturday, 30th June, the 6.1 km prologue through Liège;
- Sunday 1st July, the first stage, 100% in Liège, departing from Liège and arriving in Seraing.
Monday, 2nd July to cheer on the peloton, setting out from Visé in pursuit of the finishing line at Tournai.

Ville d’Ans
Ans, a medium-sized town of around 30,000 inhabitants, is located on the hills above Liège. With its housing estates, residential and commercial areas and industrial zones – as well as its rural areas for nature lovers, there really is plenty to satisfy the wishes and aspirations of the entire population. And what’s more, the motorway network is just a few minutes away. Comprising the former municipalities of Ans, Alleur, Loncin and Xhendremael, Ans boasts a particularly enticing range of cultural attractions including the Château de Waroux, where a wide variety of exhibitions take place throughout the year. Similarly, a visit to Loncin Fort is not to be missed. Built in the late nineteenth century and now serving as a World War I burial and memorial site, it is equipped with an automatic audioguide system. And then there are the myriad sports facilities for both young and old alike. Ans is the answer!
