For the last three decades, the Province of Liège has been pursuing an energetic sports policy, based on a balanced combination of amateur and professional sports.
The many major sports events it organises help to boost its image as “Belgium’s most sporting province” while bringing significant economic benefits.
As well as the traditional Ardennes classics, the Province of Liège has welcomed the global cycling elite during the three great Tours: 10 visits by the Tour de France, the great departure of the Giro d’Italia in 2006 and the Spanish Vuelta last year.
In July, the Province of Liège will once again host two stages of the Tour de France: Brussels-Spa and Wanze-Arenberg Porte du Hainaut.
Ans is a charming and attractive municipality located in the hills above Liège. Its 2,300 hectares comprise an urban landscape towards the southern boundary with Liège, a more rural setting in the north at Xhendremael and an industrial area in the centre. Situated at the heart of a very dense motorway network, Ans occupies an exceptional location with easy access to the Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg, helping to explain its economic growth and the presence of many cutting-edge technology companies. Comprising the old districts of Ans, Alleur, Loncin and Xhendremael, Ans is a medium-sized municipality of around 28,000 inhabitants.
