Tim Wellens: “Every time I attacked, it is for the stage victory”

July 10 th 2019 - 18:39

“Today I needed a bit of luck to get into the breakaway. The peloton never let us go. Every time I attacked, it is for the stage victory. But today I realized pretty quickly that we wouldn’t make it, so I focused on the KOM points and I succeeded. Every day in the polka dot jersey is a nice one. I’ve had the best climber’s jersey at the Giro but it felt like normal. At the Tour, it’s always special. But my legs weren’t great today. So I believe I need a day off tomorrow and I hope it’ll be the turn of Thomas De Gendt. He hasn’t been very lucky so far in catching the breakaways but I hope it’ll be his day of glory tomorrow and I’ll save some energy for what will be next.”
