“Yesterday I told [sport director] Fabio Baldato that I’m gonna try a breakaway. There’s always a chance to succeed. It was a long day at the front. It’s good to get something at the end with the combativity prize. Maybe one day, it’ll work out. We had a good start of this Tour with the polka dot jersey and the team time trial went well too. We want to keep that momentum going and try every day. We’ll try until we get rewarded. It’s disappointing that we weren’t allowed more than two or three minutes. When I started as a pro cyclist, such breakaways in 200km long stages always managed to get more than ten minutes. There’s not a lot of margin anymore. I felt quite good even in the last climb.”
