“It wasn’t a primary goal to take the white jersey, especially because I was quite far down in the ranking. Staying with the main peloton enabled me to get it but I’ll take it day by day. I usually have a bad day or two. It’s strange to get the first feeling of climbing at the Tour. It went pretty well today but I’m not sure of how I’ll go next. The white jersey is a very nice one to wear, particularly at the Tour de France with so many strong riders on their top shape. The GC for Romain [Bardet] remains the priority. I’m there to accompany him in the mountains as far as possible, so he can make the podium or win the Tour.”
