Leaving Brussels, the peloton will already be thinking of the Muur van Geraardsbergen, which was already featured in Eddy Merckx’s first Tour in 1969. After a U-turn in Charleroi, a cobblestone sector will shake up the riders. They will go past the famous Lion's Mound, on the battlefield where Napoleon’s troops were defeated in the battle of Waterloo. The finale will take them through the streets of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, where a young Eddy pulled on his first yellow jersey.
