"It was a reward by the team to put me in the break. When I saw that Alberto was there, I tried to stay with him because I know him and I know he never gives up until the finish line. I suffered a lot but I managed to stay in his wheel. When I saw they didn't catch us I started to think about winning the stage. I did the best I could to go for victory. It has been an incredible week from day 1 for the team with Julian winning the time trial and Dan Martin fishing on the podium. We all worked very well."
David de la Cruz: "An incredible week"
interview12.03.2017Stage 8- Nice / Nice
History repeated itself on Sunday for Team Sky's Sergio Henao and Alberto Contador, who battled it out in a nail-biting final stage of Paris-Nice before the Spaniard was forced to concede defeat for two seconds. Already beaten a year ago by a slim four-second margin by another Team Sky rider, Geraint Thomas, the 2007 and 2010 winner of the Race to the Sun again failed by the blink of an eye as the British outfit conquered their fifth final victory in six years with four different riders....
"The first goal was to secure the polka-dot jersey and I managed to do it in the stage. The gap never went up too much and we knew that Cote de Peille and Col d'Eze are ideal for attacks and that's what happened again when Contador went. A stage win would have been icing on the cake but Contador was too strong. It was a good day, a great show, which proved that short stages could be exciting. I spend a pleasant day on the bike."
