The Tour at a crossroads

Carrefour de l'Arbre (Crossroads of the Tree) is every year in mid-April, one of the key sections of the Queen of Classics, Paris-Roubaix. The cobbled sector returns in July to haunt the peloton once again at kilometre 87 as a starter for the tough menu of nine cobbled zones awaiting the riders. Ever since the Tour course was revealed in October, every team knows that this stage can be crucial to the outcome of the Tour and Carrefour de l'Arbre, while leass decisive that in the Hell of the North, is the very spot where the action starts.

 

  • Boom wins, Nibali triumphs, Contador struggles, Froome pulls out

    The legendary stage of the north of France including some cobbled sections has seen the abandon of defending champion Chris Froome who has crashed on two occasions... before the pavés. On a rain soaked day of racing, Lars Boom took a valuable victory in Arenberg-Porte du Hainaut, Vincenzo Nibali retained and increased his lead in the overall ranking while Alberto Contador lost more time than most of the other GC contenders.
