Maubourguet Pays du Val d'Adour

Wine tourism

Drawn from a rare and original grape, tannat, helped by the expertise of men and women of passion, the wines of Madiran have a strong identity and cannot leave indifferent. Two tourist attractions are not to be missed.
La Maison des vins (House of wines) displays the riches of the wines of Madiran, Pacherence and Vic-Bilh and is the starting point to a visit of the cellars of the appellation (www.madiran-story.fr).
The castle of Crouseilles, built on the site of the feudal mutt, is an elegant 18th century manor with two pavilions on each side of the lodgings.  Surrounded by a large park, the site produces wines of Madiran, Pacherenc and Vic-Bilh (www.crouseilles.com).

A friend of the Tour de France

While the Tour de France makes its first halt in Maubourguet, the town held the start of     a Tour des Pyrenees stage in 2004 finishing in Lourdes. Dutchman Theo Eltink won that day. The former mayor of the village, Jean Glavany, is familiar with the race. In 1985, he had escorted then president Francois Mitterrand on his visit to the Tour as his head of cabinet. Twenty-eight years later, Jean Glavany had also been alongside president Francois Hollande when he visited the 2013 edition between St Lary and Bagneres de Bigorre. Glavany was again present to welcome Christian Prudhomme and Raymond Poulidor when they came to Maubourguet to introduce this year's stage.

Saint Sever de Rustan Abbey

Of Gallo-Roman origins, the site is home to a 10th century Cistercian abbey. Its architecture was strongly refurbished with the passing conflicts. From the Romanesque plenitude to the Gothic elegance, the Baroque exuberance and the solid classicism, the building is a striking diversity of styles.

Tower of Termes d'Armagnac

The only remnant of the castle of the lords of Termes d'Armagnac, it is a listed historical monument. The castle was built in the late 13th and early 14th centuries. Built on a hill overlooking the Adour valley, it was a perfect watchtower for the lords of Armagnac.
