During the last decade, two cities of the Yvelines area have welcomed the start of the last stage of the Tour: Rambouillet in 2012 and Versailles the following year. The series will continue with Houilles where one can visit the last home of Victor Schoelcher, writer of the decree abolishing slavery in 1848, some 170 years ago. In terms of cycling, the prologue of the 2013 edition of Paris-Nice had been set in Houilles and won by Damien Gaudin in 2013.

The capital of France will also be celebrated as the capital of sports after winning the bid to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. An opportunity, like with the Tour to showcase Paris and its region. The final circuit will take the riders for a quick visit of the historical heart of the city. The shores of the Seine river, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum will have their place in the scenery but the main star still remains the Avenue des Champs-Élysées that has welcomed the finish of the Tour since 1975.
