3-time stage city
Sous-préfecture of Savoie (73)
19 900 inhabitant
The riders of the Tour have often gone through Albertville to head to the Tarentaise and Beaufortain valleys, but rarely have they stopped there. The last two starts in the Olympic city inspired French champions. In 2012, Pierre Rolland made the best of the short format of the day’s stage to triumph at La Toussuire-Les Sybelles. In 2016, Romain Bardet had struck hard before reaching Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc where he captured the stage win and second place in the general classification.
Stage site for the first time
Touristic mountain resort of Savoie (73) on the territory of the Montvalezan common Franco-Italian domain
Known for its orientation to the south that delights the skiers in winter, the resort has never hosted the Tour de France but has already revealed quite some talents on the occasion of the Tour de l’Avenir that went there twice. In 2014, Miguel Angel Lopez, a winner of two stages on the last Vuelta a Espana had conquered there the most prestigious of Under 23 races thanks to his win at La Rosière. The following year, Frenchman Guillaume Martin was also noticed there when he claimed a stage.
