Paris-Roubaix: a race that demands respect!

This year again, almost 200 riders will be taking starter's orders for the world's most formidable cycling race.

The 259 km route between Paris and Roubaix is a very bumpy one… and demands respect from each competitor!

A partner of this 108th edition, the Nord-Pas de Calais Region will be in attendance alongside spectators to encourage the athletes who have come to tackle the cobbles which have made the "Hell of the North" so famous.

In 2010, the keynote for this intensely popular event will be protection of the environment.

In cooperation with ESTERRA, the company in charge of waste collection and disposal in the Lille Urban Community, the Nord-Pas de Calais Region has set up a brand new scheme for collecting waste. Seven bins will be placed in the key sector of the Carrefour de l'Arbre crossroads, a vantage point for several thousands of spectators.

With plastic cups, cans, food trays, paper napkins, etc., more than 80 m3 of refuse will be retrieved and immediately routed to a waste treatment centre! Mediators on bicycles will be covering the area and will provide the public with refuse bags in order to organise waste collection at the source.

This responsible initiative promoted by the Nord-Pas de Calais Region will enable the spectators to become players in the process and guarantee the best conditions to really enjoy the race for each and everyone.
