The 17 escapees have two minutes lead at the first passage on the finishing line at Sallanches. Brajkovic is in a small group with all HTC-Columbia riders but none of his team-mates ten seconds ahead of the bunch where there is Contador.

14:19 - Only three riders left in the lead

Tjallingii, De Weert and Perez are the only three riders remaining in the lead as they are now climbing the 11.2km côte des Rafforts. The peloton is 30 seconds behind.

14:10 - The breakaway is breaking up

Roels and Brandt are dropped. They get caught by the bunch, as well as Augé who is quickly dropped at the back of the peloton.

The breakaway seems to diying slowly but surely. At km 49, they only have 45 seconds lead left.

14:03 - At the exit of Albertville

A new accurate time has been given on Radio Tour: 1.10 at km 45.

13:55 - Liquigas, Sky and Katusha ride behind

At the entrance of Albertville (km 41), the town of the winter Olympic Games in 1992, the advantage of the eight leading riders has decreased to 1.20. This is due to the combination of the efforts of three teams to pace at the head of the bunch: Liquigas, Sky and Katusha.

Tjallingii (Rabobank), Brandt (Omega), Meier (Garmin), De Weert (Quick Step), Augé and Dumoulin (Cofidis), Roels (Milram) and Perez (Euskaltel) have 1.45 lead at km 38.

13:47 - Race leader on twitter today

On his way to Allevard-les-Bains for the start of today’s stage, race leader Jani Brajkovic twitted from the team bus: “Leaving Alpe d’Huez. Gorgeous area, will be back for vacations this summer.” Now the question is: will RadioShack attribute holidays to Brajkovic in July or August? Yesterday, the Slovenian twitted: “I think it’s time to start studying french.” Brajkovic isn’t yet selected for the Tour de France. He’s one of the 14 candidates at RadioShack for the nine available spots.

The eight breakaway riders have 2.15 lead now. It keeps going down at km 29.

13:39 - Sky leads the bunch

As Team Sky took the command of the bunch, the gap is reduced to 2.40 at km 24 in Aiton.

At km 19, the time gap between the eight breakaway riders and the bunch is 3.40.

13:28 - Van Garderen in the press today

In Le Dauphiné, Tejay Van Garderen (HTC-Columbia) who is the best young rider and big revelation of the race, explains the help he got from Chris Horner (RadioShack) up to l’Alpe d’Huez: “I’ve suffered a lot at the end but Horner helped me a lot. He didn’t have any reason for doing it, except that we’re both American. It’s really nice of him. When Contador attacked, I was at my limits. I couldn’t follow him. I’ve done my best. This climb was really hard for me. When I looked at the top, I thought I would never make it. I hope nothing wrong will happen during the last stage because my legs are dead.”

13:27 - In the press today

Race leader Janez Brajkovic said in today’s Le Dauphiné: “At l’Alpe d’Huez, I haven’t reached my physical limits but I was very close! There’s one stage left. I haven’t won yet. But I have good form, I should be all right. The tactic consists in staying with the favourites and not let any of them go.”

The start proper has been given to 148 riders at 13:10. One non starter: Francisco Perez (Caisse d’Epargne).

13:03 - Jersey holders

Janez Brajkovic (RadioShack) retains the yellow/blue jersey he got after Wednesday’s time trial on stage 3. He also leads the points classification, so Alberto Contador (Astana) who is second will wear the green jersey. Another Spaniard, Egoi Martinez (Euskaltel) is the new king of the mountains and wears the polka dot jersey today.
Brajkovic has been impeccable in defence of the yellow/blue jersey yesterday at l’Alpe d’Huez. The Slovenian has a 1.41 advantage over Contador on GC. Tejay Van Garderen (HTC-Columbia) is third at 2.41, Jurgen Van den Broeck (Omega Pharma-Lotto) is fourth at 3.46 and Nicolas Vogondy (Bbox Bouygues Telecom) is fifth and best Frenchman at 4.01.
Brajkovic has 87 points. Contador follows with 83 points. Geraint Thomas (Sky) is third with 67 points.
Martinez has a comfortable lead in the king of the mountains competition. With 55 points, he precedes Brajkovic who has 33 and Contador who has 32. Previous leader Eros Capecchi (Footon-Servetto) has 31 points.
Euskaltel leads the teams competition ahead of Ag2r-La Mondiale. The French team has a deficit of 1.39.

Welcome to the live coverage of the seventh and last stage of the 62nd Criterium du Dauphiné from Allevard-les-Bains to Sallanches (148 kilometres). The stage is dedicated to the celebration of the thirty years anniversary of Bernard Hinault’s victory at the 1980 world championship with the presence of his team-mates from that glorious day of his career. The same climb of Domancy will be covered five times by the riders of the Dauphiné today.
