Gérardmer boasts an environment of magnificent natural beauty that has already enchanted (and will continue to enchant many more) hosts of sports fans and nature lovers.
Situated right in the heart of the Hautes- Vosges, stunning in terms of beauty, authenticity and nature, Gérardmer features all the outstanding assets of a top-flight sports holiday destination. Multiple walking trails are available for hikers, and the numerous high mountain passes in and around the Gérardmer region provide cycling fans, whether road racers or mountain bikers, with a wide range of cycle circuits.

In the summer, a host of water sports are available at Lake Gérardmer: rowing and sailing, with swimming and diving at the Water Sports Union. The mountains are an excellent base for a great variety of pursuits open to winter sports fans: alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowshoe trekking, tobogganing…
To complete the picture, a leisure centre, located quai du Locle, and open all year-round, caters to all sporting tastes, with its indoor swimming pool, ice-skating rink, climbing wall, sauna and bowling alley.

Ornans

Atypical, artistic, aquatic and authentic are just a few of the many terms that can be applied to Ornans. This picturesque little city and district town of 4,200 inhabitants, known as Ornanais, is located in the county of Doubs and the Franche-Comté region, 25 kilometres south-east of Besançon, the county capital.

Also known as « the little Venice of Franche-Comté », birthplace of the painter Gustave Courbet, it has developed over the years on the banks of the River Loue. This river is labelled as one of the most beautiful in Europe for fly-fishing. The dramatic drop in altitude – over 200 metres – as the river plunges from its source to flow through the town also makes the Loue a very popular downstream canoeing-kayaking course. Water remains omnipresent in Ornans at the brand new water sports centre, the “Nautiloue”, which boasts five pools.

After hosting the Mountain Bike World Cup last autumn, Ornans is delighted to welcome the Tour de l’Avenir.
