Dreux is very proud to host the Start and the 2nd stage of the Tour de l’Avenir.
The Drouais (native inhabitants) adore cycling, manifest during the Tour of Eure-et-Loir which passes through the city every year. The “Vélo Sport Drouais” is a dynamic cycling club that widely relays the values of cycling and federates a host of amateur riders. Tomorrow’s future champions will be in Dreux for a weekend and the population of the entire urban area will be present on this occasion to discover the riders who will perhaps be the future stars of the Tour de France.

The City of Dreux has gone to great lengths in preparing to welcome this celebrated sporting event and all of those who contribute to its success. Each and every Drouais hopes that visitors will have some time to discover their city and its charms. The locals will do their utmost to have visitors enjoy their magnificent environment and extend their warm hospitality. Dreux wishes all the valiant champions performances to match their expectations and the best possible conditions for a fine and excellent race.

Situated between Elbeuf and Le Neubourg, in the county of Eure and the region of Haute-Normandie, at the heart of the “Pays du Roumois” (region around Rouen), Tourville-la-Campagne, with a population of approximately 900, is part of the Amfreville-la-Campagne Community of Communes.
An important personage marked the history of the commune: the abbot Jacques-Désiré Laval. This French priest and missionary, considered as blessed by the Roman Catholic Church and beatified in Rome in 1979 by Pope Jean-Paul II, was born in the neighbouring village of Croth in 1803 and died in 1864 in Sainte-Croix on the Island of Mauritius where he devoted most of his life to caring for the very poor.
In his youth, Jacques-Désiré Laval stayed for a certain time at the presbytery of his Uncle, Canon Nicolas Laval, the parish priest. A commemorative plaque in memory of his time spent at Tourville-la-Campagne adorns one of the church walls.
The area surrounding the church has been listed as a historical site because of the magnificent hundred year old yew tree that stands there and the beautiful pond situated at the centre of this spot favours fishing and peaceful activities.
