
The 22nd TOUR DU FASO is being organised by the Ministry of Sports and Leisure, the Burkina Faso Cycling Federation and Amaury Sport Organisation, in accordance with The Union Cycliste Internationale (International Cycling Federation) regulations.
It will take place from 24 October to 02 November 2008 and comprises 10 stages.
The 22nd Tour du Faso is open to national teams, sports groups and other authorised bodies, pursuant to Class 2 ICU regulations.
Each team must comprise 6 riders.
The event attributes the following number of points in accordance with ICU individual classifications:
The Staff HQ, from where accredited team managers can obtain their bibs, will be open from 10:00 on Thursday 23 October at the C.A.C.S (Centre d’Accueil, de Conférences et de Séminaires), Boulevard Circulaire, route de Fada N’Gourma, Ouagadougou.
The Team Managers’ meeting, in the presence of Jury Members, will be held at 16:30 on Thursday 23 October at the C.A.C.S.
The opening ceremony of the 22nd Tour du Faso will be held in Ouagadougou at 19:00 on 23 October.
Race information will be broadcast on the Radio Tour frequency. Receivers will be provided to teams for the duration of the event.
The overall individual time classification is decided by adding up the times recorded for each stage, taking into account bonuses and penalties, pursuant to Article 2.6.014 of the ICU. Where the overall individual times recorded are equal, the sum of the positions obtained for each stage shall be taken into account and, as a last resort, the position obtained in the final stage, pursuant to Article 2.6.015 of the ICU.
The leader of the overall individual time classification will wear the Yellow Jersey.
The overall individual points classification will be determined by adding the points obtained in each of the 11 stages, pursuant to Article 2.6.017 of the ICU.
Attribution of points: from the 1st to 20th ranked rider: 30, 27, 25, 23, 21, 19, 17, 15, 13, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points.
If there is a tie, the following criteria will be used to decide the race order:
The leader of the overall individual points classification wears the Green Jersey.
The overall individual classification for intermediate sprints will be determined by adding the points obtained in each of the intermediate sprints.
For each sprint, 3, 2, and 1 points will be attributed to the first three ranked riders.
If there is a tie, the following criteria will be used to decide the race order:
The leader of the overall individual classification for intermediate sprints will wear the Pink Jersey.
The overall individual classification for best young rider is reserved for riders born after 1 January 1984.
The first among them in the overall individual time classification is the day’s leader in this classification.
On finishing the final stage, he will be declared winner of the overall individual classification for best young rider.
The leader of the overall individual classification for best young rider wears the White Jersey.
The overall individual classification for best UEMOA rider is reserved for riders belonging to UEMOA member countries.
The first among them in the overall individual time classification is the day’s leader in this integrated classification.
On finishing the final stage, he will be declared winner of the overall individual classification for best UEMOA rider.
The leader of the overall individual classification for best UEMOA rider wears the Pale Green Jersey.
The overall individual classification for best African rider is reserved for riders belonging to teams from the African region (outside Europe). The first among them in the overall individual time classification is the day’s leader in this classification.
On finishing the final stage, he will be declared winner of the overall individual classification for best African rider.
The leader of the overall individual classification for best African rider wears the Blue Jersey.
The overall individual classification for combativity rewards the cyclist who makes the greatest efforts and who demonstrates the best sporting spirit. This classification, judged at each stage, is awarded by a jury chaired by the Competition Director.
The winner of the combativity prize for the stage wears the Red Jersey during the following stage.
A Super Combativity prize is awarded by Jury Members at the end of the Tour du Faso.
The overall team classification is decided each day by adding up the three best individual times for each team. If there is a tie, the team order will be decided by adding up the positions obtained by the first three cyclists in the stage. The overall classification by teams each day is decided by adding up the three best individual times for each team in all the stages. If there is a tie, the following criteria will be used to decide the race order:
Teams reduced to less than three cyclists are eliminated from the overall team classification.
Time bonuses are attributed for all stages.

For each stage, the finish deadline is equivalent to 20 % more than that of the winner.
Anti-doping tests will take place under the authority of the Union Cycliste Internationale (International Cycling Union) and designated officials, at the finish of each stage.
