Seix

History, mountains and rushing Pyrenees streams have formed an unusual, atypical village. A tiny enclave in the Languedoc region, in the middle of the central Pyrenees under the Old Régime, its inhabitants were chosen by the Kings of France to guard the frontier!

Today, the city attracts many tourists as it crouches in the shadow of its 16th century castle. It has an impressive and well-preserved architectural heritage with, as a backdrop, the Mont Vallier mountain: Seix is proud of its label as a "green resort".

Having overcome the disaster of rural exodus of the last two centuries, charged with a strong commercial fabric, offering a variety of services, Seix now assumes its role as a thriving city, centrepiece of a mountain canton.
After Charlemagne granted the city the status of "Free Town", its inhabitants proudly display their motto: "Soun de Seich, cap de paur!" (I am from Seix, do not be afraid!).

Mirepoix

Throughout the centuries, the central square of the fortified village of Mirepoix has always played a federating role and this is still the case today.

The square attracts visitors as soon as they arrive. They admire the half-timbered façades, the sculpted butts of the House of Consuls and contemplate the hall and ancient cathedral of Saint-Maurice that bears the entwined signatures of the famous architects Mérimée and Viollet-le-Duc on the outside, while inside the visitors are impressed by the stunning single nave, the 19th century stained glass windows, the three keys of the Rieux master’s vault and the great organs made in Germany.

In Mirepoix, visitors can find pleasures to delight all of their senses in the formidable list of shows and exhibitions including concerts, a marionette festival, a jazz festival, the Fête de la Pomme (Apple Fete), the local history book fair, art exhibitions, to name just a few.

Mirepoix, a bridge between the past and the present...
