To the west of Bourbon territory and at the edge of the Combrailles area, Commentry is located in the Allier department.
Coal formed the origin of the city’s industrial history but Commentry developed mainly due to its chemical industry (Addiséo) and its steelworks (Erasteel).
With over 7,000 inhabitants, Commentry offers all of the advantages of a city allied with the charm of the countryside. Its quality of life is enhanced by a dynamic social fabric and a rich and varied cultural and sports scene.
Found in its coal mines that sealed Commentry’s fortune and renown, the famous "Meganeura Monyi", the largest fossil dragonfly ever discovered, has become the city’s emblem.
