In the first kilometres, the bunch gaze at each other and climb the first difficulties in one group (Côte de Peu d’Eau, km 38,5 et Côte de Haut-Bois, km 44). The race really evolves approaching the Côte de Thon. A small group tries and attack, but the control its advantage and catch the break away entering Bonneville.
In the women's pack, the Flèche Wallonne meeting has a key importance, linked to the presence on the course of the Mur de Huy that forces the champions to demonstrate their strength in a Grande finale. During the last two editions, the strongest at the top of this unique climb also conquered the World Cup at the end of the year. For the fifth leg, Nicole Cooke, a three-time winner of the Fleche (2003, 2005, 2006), as well as Fabiana Luperini (1998, 2001, 2002), are among the favourites. But title-holder, Marianne Vos, will also be defending her chances. Other than the former winners, she will have to battle it out in the final part against the girls from the High Road Women team with the likes of Judith Arndt, Chantal Beltman and Oenone Wood who have regularly been on the podiums since the start of the season.
