06/06/2007 - Un tour pour une finale

This morning, the organisers of the Tour de l'Avenir unveiled the course of the 44th edition that will be held from the 6th to the 15th of September. In the presence of Daniel Gilles, vice-president in charge of sports in the Brittany area, sporting director Jean-François Pescheux detailed the new stakes of the event that will once again be competed by national teams. For the return to this formula that had been abandoned back in 1980, the countries will be selected based on the results claimed in the Nations Cup, in which the Tour de l'Avenir will be a sort of Grande Finale.

The elite riders of under 23 years of age will for the occasion be invited to a prestigious start that will be held, like for the 2007 Tour de France, on an island: Belle-Ile-en-Mer. The pack including 22 teams of 6 riders will start with a 150.5 km stage on the island. For its return on the continent, nine stages will remain before reaching Saint-Flour, after a total of 1435 km of riding.
