The film of the stage
T-Mobile first in action
From the start, the bunch rides at a fast pace. At kilometre 14, Anderson (T-Mobile) launches the first attack of the day. But the bunch quickly catch her up. At the top of the côte de Pailhe, the Swiss Maechler leads the pack. De Goede tries and attacks but can’t manage to get a real advantage and at the top of the Côte de Peau, the bunch rides fast, lead by Bubnenkova, Armstrong and Bosman.
Pitel as a leader.
The bunch remains together and the pace is fast until the top of the Côte de Thon. But this fast pace soon creates its first victims. In the climb of the Côte de Bonneville, Curi tries to break away. She is soon joined by Pitel but the two riders can’t create a real gap and are caught one kilometre before the top
Waiting for the ’Mur’
The American Powers leads the bunch at the Côte de Bohissau. Many riders try to break away, but no one succeeds and the bunch is still in one group at the foot of the final climb.
Vos devant Cooke et Arndt
The first to attack is Cooke followed by Lutz. Soon five riders are off the front because Vos, Bruins and Neben bridge across. In the final battle Vos makes the kind of acceleration that simply cannot be challenged and wins ahead of Cooke. Arndt, meanwhile, makes an impressive comeback to take third. Already reigning world champion, wins the first Fleche Wallonne of her career.
