Stop over towns

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc

The world mountaineering capital is nestled at the heart of an area of outstanding natural beauty. From the valley, you can take in the sight of Mont Blanc, and La Mer de Glace, glaciers and numerous other summits.
Several activities are available in the Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley in both summer and winter. You can admire the mountain from any height. The mechanical lifts like the Aiguille du Midi cable car, or the Montenvers train will take you close to the high summits.
But Chamonix is also a town in the mountains where extreme sport enthusiasts can rub shoulders with casino-goers, customers of trendy bars, or even those studying architectural history.

Finhaut

The houses in Finhaut, a town high in the Valais area, extremely close to Chamonix, in the heart of the Mont-Blanc area, are built from stone in the style of Tibetan villages. The 350 residents must have stone masonry in their blood...
In terms of Alpine tourism, since 1860 they have built about twenty hotels along the stagecoach routes between Vernayaz and Chamonix above the grey rocks overhanging the Trient waterfall.
In terms of water-power, since 1925 the town has survived with the consecutive construction of three dams, the most recent of which, Emosson, is in a picture perfect setting, facing the majestic Mont-Blanc.
In terms of cycling, the "Fignolins" organised an impressive finish for a stage of the Tour de Suisse. The winner was the champion Felice Gimondi, former winner of the Tour de l’Avenir.
