Special rules

ARTICLE 1. Organisation
The 43rd TOUR DE L'AVENIR is organised by TDF Sport et Amaury Sport Organisation, under the regulations of the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the Fédération Française de Cyclisme (French Cycling Federation). It will take place from the 31 August to 9 September and consists of 10 stages.

ARTICLE 2. Type of event
The event is reserved for athletes of the Elite Men's Category. It is registered in the Continental European Calendar in Class 1, and awards the following points in accordance with UCI article 2.11.014:
final individual overall classification: 80, 56, 32, 24, 20, 16, 12, 8, 7, 6, 5 and 3 points to the first 12 classified riders, stage classification: 16, 11, 6, 5, 4 and 2 points to the first 6 classified riders, to the wearer of the leader's jersey for each stage: 8 points.

ARTICLE 3. Participation
In accordance with UCI article 2.1.005, the event is open to:
  • - UCI Pro Tour
  • - Professional Continental Teams
  • - Continental Team
  • - National Teams
In accordance with article 2.2.003, each team is made up of 6 riders of 25 years of age maximum this year, i.e. born on or after 1 January 1981.

ARTICLE 4. Headquarters
The reception headquarters, where licence-holding team managers must collect race numbers, will be open on Wednesday 30 August from 2:30pm to 7pm The team managers' meeting, in the presence of members of the college of stewards, is scheduled for Thursday 31 August at 9.30am at the organisation's headquarters.
The official team presentation will take place on Wednesday 30 August from 6:30pm.

ARTICLE 5. Radio-Tour
Information on the race will be broadcast on "Radio-Tour", frequency of 169.425 MHZ.

ARTICLE 6. Neutral Technical Assistance
The neutral assistance service is provided by the MAVIC company with 3 vehicles.

ARTICLE 7. Elimination Times
In each in-line stage, there is a finishing period increased by 15% in relation to the winner's time.
In the 9th stage, which is an "Individual Time Trial", the period is 25%. In accordance with article 2.6.032 of the U.C.I. regulations, the College of Stewards may extend finishing times after consulting with the organisers.

ARTICLE 8. Bonus Points
Time bonus points are awarded in in-line stages from the 1st to the 10th stage, with the exception of the 9th stage which is a "time trial". They are awarded as follows in accordance with UCI article 2.6.019:
1) at stage finishes: 10'', 6'', 4'' to the first 3 classified riders,
2) at each intermediary sprint: 3'', 2'', 1'' to the first 3 classified riders.

ARTICLE 9. Individual Time Trials
For the 9th stage: CHAMONIX-MONT-BLANC > FINHAUT-EMOSSON which is an individual time trial, starts are spaced at one-minute intervals in accordance with the order drawn up by the organiser and the Stewards' Jury.

ARTICLE 10. Individual overall classification by time
The individual overall classification by time is determined by adding the times recorded in each of the stages, taking bonuses and penalties into consideration - UCI article 2.6.014. The leader of the individual overall classification by time wears a yellow jersey.

ARTICLE 11. Individual overall classification by points
A classification by points is determined by adding the points obtained in each of the 10 stages as well as the intermediary sprints in accordance with UCI article 2.6.017.
The following points are awarded:
- for the 9th individual time-trial stage, from the 1st to the 10th classified rider: 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point(s).
- from the 1st to the 10th stage, except for the 9th individual time trial stage, from the 1st to the 20th classified rider: 30, 27, 25, 23, 21, 19, 17, 15, 13, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point(s).
- in each Intermediary Sprint, the following points are awarded respectively: 3, 2 and 1 point(s) to the first 3 classified riders.
In the case of a tie in the final overall classification, the following criteria shall be applied, until the riders are separated:
1) number of stage victories
2) number of intermediary sprint victories
3) final overall classification by time
The leader of the classification by points wears a Green Jersey.

ARTICLE 12. Individual overall classification for the Best Climber
An individual overall classification for the Best Climber is determined by adding the points obtained in the passes and hills which count towards this classification, in accordance with the following scales:
- FIRST-CATEGORY PASSES AND HILLS:
    15, 13, 11, 9, 8, 7, 6 and 5 points, respectively for the 1st to 8th classified rider.
- SECOND-CATEGORY PASSES AND HILLS: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6 and 5 points, respectively for the 1st to the 6th classified rider.
THIRD-CATEGORY PASSES AND HILLS:
    5, 3, 2 and 1 point(s), respectively for the 1st to the 4th classified rider.
- FOURTH-CATEGORY PASSES AND HILLS:
    
3, 2 and 1 point(s), respectively for the 1st to the 3rd classified rider. Where two riders have equal points in the overall classification for the Best Climber, the one who has obtained the largest number of first places at the top of the 1st-Category Passes and Hills shall be declared winner. In the eventuality of the riders concerned still being equal, the first places obtained in the 2nd-Category Passes and Hills shall separate them. It is possible that resort may have to be made to the first places obtained at the tops of the 3rd-Category Passes and Hills.
Finally, individual overall classification by time. In order to be placed in overall classification for the Best Climber, award winners must finish the event. The leader of the Best Climber classification wears a Red Polka-dot Jersey with a White Background.

ARTICLE 13. Overall team classification
Team classification of the day is determined by adding the three best individual times of each team. In the case of a tie, teams are separated by adding the places obtained by their first three riders of the stage. Overall team classification is determined by adding the best three individual times of each team in all the stages covered.
In case of a tie, the following criteria shall be applied until there is a separation:
1) number of first places in the team classification of the day
2) number of second places in the team classification of the day etc.
Any team reduced to less than three runners is disqualified from the Overall Team Classification.

ARTICLE 14. Anti-doping testin
The anti-doping testing is carried out under the authority of the International Cyclists' Union and designated officials, at the finish of each stage in the organisation's Trailer.

ARTICLE 15. Protocol ceremony
After each stage, the following must be present at the protocol ceremony:
- The stage winner,
- The leader of the individual overall classification by time,
- The leader of the individual overall classification by points,
- The leader of the overall classification for the best climber.
At the start of each stage, the following must be present at the protocol ceremony:
- The leading team in the overall team classification.

ARTICLE 16. Penalties
Penalties are in accordance with UCI regulations.
