Stop over towns

Charleroi

Good to be back
Charleroi is always pleased and proud to welcome the Tour de France back. Two years ago, our village, teaming with people, saluted as the Tour passed through, and demonstrated, had there been any need, the unrivalled popularity of the biggest cycling race in the world.
This year, Charleroi-la-Sportive takes the same pleasure in welcoming the Tour de l’Avenir as it did its big brother event. Having held an energetic sports policy for over 20 years, we know it is best to place as much importance, not more, on developing new talents as on established champions.
Whilst supporting our leading clubs and professional sportsmen, our city, the largest town in Wallonia, puts a lot into training young people through sport, in clubs and also through sports studies. And it is here that the cycling section is one of the most solid bases.
The cherry on the cake for us is that in 2006, the Tour de l’Avenir will start... and finish in Charleroi! Or in Marcinelle-en-Montagne in Savoie to be more precise, where our city, also a pioneer in the area has been sending its school children to ski school for decades.
We love cycling and we love the Tour here. Welcome to Charleroi and to the giants of the grassy tracks; enjoy the ride!
